The late Syd Barrett was the original front man and songwriter for Pink Floyd. Viewed widely as a musical genius, his style was pioneering in the underground psychedelic music scene. He actually viewed himself more as a visual artist, and having left the band in 1968 he immersed himself in his first love – painting. He produced abstract canvases and impressionistic work from still life, and although he had a habit of destroying his canvases once a piece was finished, some of his work remains in existence and is currently on show in London. The Idea Generation Gallery can be found at Chance Street, London E2, and runs from now until the 11th April. Admission is free, and it really is a fantastic opportunity to see some famous work from an iconic British character. Get along if you can!
