GAS (Guitar Acquisition Syndrome to you and me) is a condition which plagues guitarists all over the world. Most guitarists will recognise that niggling urge to get your hands on as many guitars as possible – and it doesn’t stop there! If you’re anything like us, you’ll recognise that irresistible compulsion to bulk-buy pedals, amps, effects processors and anything else vaguely guitar-related. Like plectrums. Oooh, shiny.

If you recognise the symptoms of GAS (if you’re unable to walk past a guitar shop without buying something, we’re talking to you), it might be helpful to know you’re not alone. Slash, the former Guns N’ Roses lead guitarist, owns a whopping 100 guitars. Joe Perry, the lead guitarist of Aerosmith, owns just over 600. Impressive – but nothing compared to Keith Richards, who claims to own 3,000 – even though he only plays 15 of them on a regular basis! He recently told BBC Radio 2 ‘The storage costs me more than they’re worth. I don’t even consider myself a guitar player’.  Do you have GAS? What’s your guitar addiction?
